Eshana frantically ran through the streets of Ianter, dodging the many obstacles along her path. Why in the hells did I ever decide to do this? she thought as she vaulted over a waist-high fence. She saw her target, and made one last frantic leap for the open door- and hit her head brutally on the lintel. She collapsed partway inside, thoughts fading into darkness.

Aakav dropped from the rafters, his leather cloak billowing around his legs. Dust clouded the ground as his boots thudded toward the fallen woman. He brushed a few bright red hairs away from his white eyes, and looked her over; she was bleeding from the forehead and unconcious. Tearing a strip of cloth from his t-shirt, and tied it around the gash under her hairline.
He stood up, and retrived a butcket of water from the back pump. He splashed it over her, hoping the ice-cold water would wake her.

Eshana woke with a start, clothes and hair sopping wet.
She glanced up into the face of the man who has woken her, and reached for the dagger conceiled in her boot. "Uloth-" she whispered, fear and hatred in her voice. She staggered upright and lunged at him, but reflexes dulled by pain and and anger carried her past him, and she collapsed once again. She shoved herself up, and leaned against the wall, bracing herself. She touched her collarbone, twisting her fingers in the fae charm against evil. It was an involuntary action, one bred and pounded into her mind as a child. She tilted her head slightly, judging her opponent automatically, even as she tightened her grip on her dagger, other hand's fingers reaching for the mage runes she needed. Clearing her throat, she spoke to stall time, her eyes darting around the room, looking for an escape route.
"What's your name?"
It was a child's question, she knew, but it was the only one her mind, fogged with pain, could come up with. She paused, noticing the pressure on her forehead. Reaching up with her free hand (still poised for spellcasting), she felt where the wound should be- and hit fabric, sodden with blood. Her eyes narrowed, and she steadied her dagger arm, flinging the silver blade at the man's chest. It was a foot from him-when it dissapeared with a puff of smoke and a bang. While he was distracted, Eshana leapt across the room and out the door, a slight smile lingering on her face.

"I don't think so,"
he said, lunging forward. Aakav lept after her, grabbing the fae around her waist. They both fell backward, landing on a chair. the wood splintered, and Aakav was the first to stand.
"My name is Aakav, and I won't hurt you. You couldn't go far anyway,"
he said, brushing more hair from his eyes. He stood in front of the door, crossing his arms.
"Not all of us Ulothain want to kill you, you know,"
he said, a slight tinge of anger entering his calm voice. His emotionless eyes seemed slightly amused, and he pulled a chair over by the door to sit in.
"Now. You know my name, may I ask yours?"
Aakav asked, brushing a bit of dirt from his sleeve.

Eshana shoved herself back against the wall violently, chin tilted up in defiance, red hair hiding her eyes. She was close to tears, but she would not show weakness in front of this abomination.
"I will not give my name to one such as you," she said, dropping her chin slightly and peering at him out from under her bangs.
He looked... familiar. Her dusty, childlike memories sorted themselves out slowly, until she remembered why.
He looked like her father, she realized with a pang. The same face, with a straight nose and high cheekbones, the same slightly aloof manner, the same hair. A dark, deep bloodred, like a fae rose just bloomed. She shifted slightly, just barely freeing her spellcasting hand.
"Did- did you know a fae man named Silten?" she asked softly, abruptly, quietly pushing her thick bangs back.

It was Aakav's turn to set his jaw. His chest tightened at the mention of the name of his family. How did she know?
"My brother's name,"
he began, catching himself there. Why was he telling her all of this?
"So, in an answer to your question, no, I never knew him, but he was my brother. Why do you ask?"
This time, Aakav was demanding, not asking. He stood, rising to his full height.
The resemblance to his sibling was more than he knew, more than he would want to know.

"Gods..." This word was breathed slowly out, an expression of pure, terrifying horror.
She tried to stand, tried to run away, to do anything besides sit here with this monster. Her muscles would not cooperate, and eventually she gave up.
Slowly, she calmed herself, taking deep, slow breaths and getting her heartrate back to normal.
Her thoughts came together slowly, as she sat there. Yes, he could be lying. Yes, he could be truthful. Whichever one, she must not let it get a hold on her, must not let it disturb her. She set to work putting it aside, putting it out of her mind. He was lying, she told herself. Trying to rile her up. Stalling for time. She calmed herself this way, lying to herself smoothly, changing her mindset.
Finally she stood up.
"I heard the name somewhere. That's all."
it was a horrible explaniation, she knew, but she couldn't think of one better, so it would have to do.

' D'you think I'd belive a story like that, considering your reaction? '
Aakav was no stupid man, and he could sense emotions well. ' Now that I know it means something that you know this, mind if I asking your name and why? '
he demanded, crossing his arms and smirking. She may have been of the more... normal species, but he knew there was some connection. After all, he had more than the senses of a normal creature.

Eshana took a deep, shuddering breath.
"My name is Eshana Vairein. Silten Vairein was my father."
She turned away, hiding the hot, angry tears running down her face.
"If that is all you wish to know, I will be leaving now."
She walked slowly towards the open doorway, clearly upset.

Aakav nearly smiled because of Eshana's frustration. He had always enjoyed his not showing much emotion.
And then realization hit him.
They were related. That's why she was so frustrated. She hates his species.
' So, why do you hate Ulothain? '
he asked, standing and walking closer to Eshana. He was pushing her buttons, he knew, but that was what he did best. He shoved his hands in his pockets and leaned againstt he frame, his eyes serious for once.

She whirled around, spiteful hate in her eyes.
"Go away."
Aakav smiled slightly. "No. Once you tell me and I have a chance to reply, you may leave. Not before that."
Eshana's eyes narrowed, and she moved closer inside as her brain whirled for an answer.
Why did she hate Ulothian?
The obvious answer came to mind immediately. They were monsters, fallen from the grace of the High Ones. That was true enough, she thought, but-
Why was her mind rejecting this?
It was what she had been taught as a child, what she had recited in church since the time she could talk.
But-
This one seemed- almost human. Almost normal. Sane, even.
Except for being an Ulothian.
She hesitated. "I-"
"Well?"
She gave an angry, frustrated sigh, and ran through the thoughts in her head one last time.
"It's what I've been taught from childhood. It's normal, see? Maybe I'm an oddball, but at least I know that. But-"
"But what?"
"But you seem to be- to be almost normal. That's all."
Aakav was used with permission from the creator, and not godmoded.

' Almost normal? ' Aakav laughed, corssing his arms and leaning against the door. He knew very well what the fae were taught, about him, about his species. But, when Eshana mentioned normal, of all things, he paused. He was one of the more... normal as she would say, of his kind, but that still surprised him.
' Define normal... '
he asked, smiling and rolling his eyes.
But this time, his smile was not a mocking one, it was kinder, less harsh and much less more.... intrested.
Oh no, he would not let Eshana leave, not right now, not until he was for sure how her mind worked. The better you know a person, the better you know how they would react if they were an enemy, he always thought.

The words popped out of Eshana's mouth before she could stop them.
"I.. I mean that... by 'normal', I mean... sane. Um.. Not... killing.. people?"
She was bumbling and confused, she knew it, but she would not back down.
"Can I go now?"
She moved towards the door.

Aakav hissed, moving in front of the door. His pale eyes showed a deep black pupil, making him all the more frightening.
' You may not levae, not only because you are injured, but you'll simply have to get used to my company, '
he added, remaining standing as he was.
